The 11 in ’11 page seems to have been a big hit, even in the years following when I did nothing of actual substance. It’s not that 2012 and 2013 were useless, but they were hardly fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants exciting, save for starting some new jobs. I’m hopeful that 2014 will bring some excitement with it, but in case it doesn’t, I’ve come up with a list of things that I’d like to accomplish throughout the year to spice things up a bit. The rules are simpler this time around – I have no grand plans of doing one new thing every month; the goal is only to accomplish all of the things listed below by 11:59 pm EST on 12/31/14. They are almost all things I’ve never done before, but those that have been done previously were done a long time ago.

Game on, 2014.

Game. On.

(In no particular order)
  1. Brunch. — Namely, I want to enjoy a luxurious lunch at either a Big Burrito restaurant, or at The Grand Concourse. And I want to enjoy it with another person – aka not solo.
    Update 01/19/14Brunch at Casbah!
  2. Drive-In Movie. — Believe it or not, I’ve never ever been to a drive-in.
    Update 08/13/14 – Drive In
  3. Eleven burger. — Proclaimed by one of my best friends to be the best burger she’s ever eaten. I need to verify this.
    Update 07/13/14 – Eleven O’Clock
  4. Improv Show. — A real improv show, like Friday Nite Improvs in the Cathedral basement. I’ve always wanted to go to one, but never had the guts to go.
    Update 01/31/14-02/01/14 – Funny Girl
  5. Just Ducky Tour. — It’s shameful that I’ve never done this in all the time I’ve lived in and around Pittsburgh.
Update 10/12/14 – All It’s Quacked Up To Be
  6. Laurel Caverns. — I both want to do this (fun!), and fear doing this (bugs! in the dark!)
Update 09/27/14-09/28/14 – Let There Be Rock
  7. Make Homemade Macarons. — I love them, so why not learn how to make them so I can save some cash?
    Update 12/19/14 – Lesson Learned
  8. Watch a Pens Playoff Game on Mario’s TV. — This is dependent upon 1) the Pens making the playoffs and 2) my schedule. I’ve wanted to do this for a couple years now.
    Update 05/02/14 – Big Screen
  9. Pittsburgh Restaurant Week – Winter & Summer sessions. — I haven’t attended a PRW event in a long time, so it’s time to try some new restaurants!
    Winter Session Update 1/17/14 – Get Stone’d
Summer Session Update 8/11/14 – Tender is the Night
    and also the long-awaited notion.
  10. Visit a country I’ve never been to before. — This is kind of a cheater goal. You’ll see why towards the middle/end of January…
Update 1/28/14 – Visited Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic with family. Not the best trip ever, but warm nonetheless.
  11. Read at least one book a month. — I’ve been slacking big-time.
January – Finished Devil in the White City, Waiter Rant, The Paris Wife, Holidays on Ice, and Behind Bars. ¡Viva la biblioteca!
    – Finished This Is How, The Kill Order, and Dead Ever After.
March – Finished Possible Side EffectsInferno, and Let’s Explore Diabetes With Owls.
Finished The Spectacular Now and Looking For Alaska. Started The Tao of Martha, but I just can’t get into it.
May – Finished Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Beautiful Darkness. The second one is a teensy bit of a cheater since I technically finished it on 6/1, but the vast majority was read within the confines of May.
June -Finished Summer Sisters and Viola in Reel Life.
July – Finished The Mighty Gastropolis: Portland and In the Garden of Beasts (FINALLY! It was difficult to get into).
August – Finished SisterlandWill Grayson, Will Grayson, Legend, and The Tao of Pooh.
    – Finished Admission, I Could Chew On This, and An Abundance of Katherines.
October – Finished Paper Towns and Champion. Started two other books, but did not finish them.
November – Finished The Book Thief , Yes Please, and The Giver.
    – Finished Orange is the New Black and We Are Water.
  12. Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Oaks. — Another thing I’ve always wanted to do. I did it in Paris and it was a blast. I’m hoping it’s just as fun in Oakmont.
Update 11/15/14 – 11/16/14Time Warp. Technically at The Hollywood Theatre instead of The Oaks, but that was beyond my control.
  13. Watch/Attend a Roller Derby Bout. — Again, long overdue.
    Update 05/10/14Derby Day
  14. Wigle Whiskey Tasting. — I’m starting to get into whiskey a little bit, so I think it would be fun to do a tasting at Wigle.
Update 02/15/14Stop! Then Wigle With It

Any big plans for the new year? Can you think of anything that should be added to the list for this year or next?
