We had a fun day today between filling up my new freezer and eating dinner. For our meal, we decided to head Downtown to Mezzo, the middle level of the Sienna Mercato trilogy (Sienna Mercato, Mezzo, and Il Tetto). Thanks to the No Wait app, we arrived just as our table was ready – pretty slick!
We ordered a charcuterie board and a pizza to split for our meal. The charcuterie board was pretty darn good – lots of different types of meats, plus pickled veggies and a cherry mostarda. I ended up making little finger sandwiches out of baguette pieces, mostarda, meat, and pickled vegetables; they were incredible. I’d have been happy if we’d ordered, like, 4 charcuterie boards. I think the BF would have been happy with that too.
But then I ruined it and suggested we get a pizza to split, so we got the pistachio & porchetta pizza. All the pizzas I saw arriving at other tables looked so good – margherita, quattro formaggio, really, anything with red sauce looked great. But when our pizza came out, we were a little surprised. There was no red sauce; in its place was a sort of pistachio butter. From there, it was topped with cheese, porchetta (like super-salty limp bacon), and tons of arugula. The BF and I both agreed that the arugula was very good – it had been tossed in some sort of dressing. And the first few bites of our pizza were good… but then about halfway through the first slice, eating it just became tedious. It was WAAAAY too salty, and we both mentioned that it tasted like we were slogging through peanut butter on pizza. It was just weird. The more I think about it, the more I feel sick remembering it. I don’t think either of us has any interest in ordering it again. Charcuterie plate? Heck yes. But please keep the pistachio pizza away.
To fix the taste in our mouths, we stopped at Waffallonia on the way home and got Liège waffles. As always, they were delicious.
While we’d have preferred to love the pizza, having two great things out of three certainly constitutes a good night. 🙂
