Getting home from work last night was rough, but luckily I had brunch this morning to look forward to. We headed back to Tartine in the West End, and got a seat with no problem. I don’t know how they’re not full every Sunday, but I’m (selfishly) happy they’re not.
For some reason, the only thing that jumped out at me today was the tartine au saumon, or smoked salmon toast. The chef had just made more, so I was in luck. I’m not a smoked salmon person – at ALL – so the choice was kind of strange. But man oh man am I glad I got it – it was fantastic. There was toast, cheese (crème fraîche, I think), lox, red onions, capers, roasted tomatoes, balsamic reduction, and more cheese. It was a veritable mouth party. So enthused was I that I made the BF stop at Wholey’s on the way home so that I could pick up some smoked salmon cream cheese to eat on crackers with capers and roasted cherry tomatoes.
I don’t know what’s gotten into me, but I like it.
