I went to the office today with the sole purpose of getting a credit card from my boss’s boss, but hardly anyone was in the office today. All the management folks were out, which meant I had to use my own corporate card to book this happy hour thing we have planned for next week. When I got in and saw that the bosses weren’t around, I almost turned right back around… but the only bad thing about the new bus route is that the buses stop running after around 9am and then start back up again around 3:30. By the time I realized no one was around, I had already missed the last bus out of town. So I stayed put, hacking and sniffling my way through the day.
Eventually I did leave a little early; I grabbed a bus at around 4 so that I could go to Walmart to get some cold meds before our volleyball game. I got off the bus and the scene looked like this – big fat snowflakes dotting the sky and painting the sidewalk. It almost looked like a scene out of a snow globe.
I didn’t take any meds before the game, but my voice started coming back during the game. I was super sore everywhere (lymph nodes) and I got really dizzy a few points into our second game, but running around seemed to loosen up some of my congestion a little. I’m curious to see if I feel better or worse tomorrow.
After our game, we’d agreed to meet for a drink at Pints on Penn (my go-to bar these days), and on the way there I noticed the light was on in the volunteer office. As I was sitting at a red light I saw our program specialist inside the building, and she’d been sending me texts while we were playing, so I stopped in to see her. It was kind of fun to fit volleyball, volunteer stuff, and drinking into the same evening; I wish it could work out like that more often.
I’m finally home now, and ready to tuck into some cold meds before I hit the hay. With any luck, the meds will knock me out and I’ll sleep like a baby. 🙂
